The Department of Zoology was established in 1971 with an aim to provide quality education to students and to contribute for the development of Animal Sciences and Zoological studies. In 1975 the department was grown into full pledged form with Intermediate and B.Sc. Programme with the combination of Botany, Zoology and Chemistry courses in Telugu Medium. The B.Sc. Programme with Botany, Zoology and Chemistry courses in English Medium was started in 2004. The B.Sc. Honours Programme with Zoology as Major course was started in 2023. The Department places emphasis on laboratory component in the teaching curriculum and research projects. Under the banner of Tellakula Jalayya Polisetty Somasundaram College, Zoology Department regularly organizes Educational Tours / Field Trips, Guest Lectures and Industrial training etc. In collaboration with Eco-Club & Life Sciences club, department organizes Guest lectures of eminent personality from the field of Biodiversity, Bioinformatics and Environmental Sciences.
The Department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. Our pedagogy focuses on basic and applied fields of Zoology assisted with Demos, Models, Videos, PowerPoints, etc.
